Programs that Work

With the huge supply of prevention curricula available to educators, it is hard to decide which to buy. Drug Strategies is making the decision easier for educators. In their report Making the Grade, Drug Strategies identifies and rates several programs according to their effectiveness in various areas. The following chart contains information about some of the best drug prevention programs according to Making the Grade.

SMARTMoves (1993): developed by Boys and Girls Clubs of America. Focuses on tobacco, alcohol, and drug use as well as sexuality.
BARN - Body Awareness Resource Network (revised 1991): developed by a research team at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. An interactive computer program that uses games, interactive interviews and simulations to teach skills to make healthy choices about alcohol, drugs, smoking, stress, sexuality, and AIDS.
